Introduction
I grew up in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA in a family where playing chamber music brought us closer together through having fun. I studied with the great cellist Orlando Cole and his assistant Metta Watts. Mr. Cole’s appreciation and love for all types of music was so inspiring; I often hear his words in my head while I’m teaching. After graduating from the Curtis Institute, which was the best place to learn chamber music, I went to Italy to play for five years. During that time, I began to study baroque cello, and played many opera, ballet and symphony concerts with excellent conductors and soloists as Assistant Principal Cello of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. After short tours with other groups, I joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and travelled with them for four years. I subsequently moved to England to study and play more Baroque music and learn viola da gamba.
I have room in my studio for new cello, piano, viola da gamba and chamber music students. Every year, I organize an annual recital for my students. From time to time, I am asked to provide student ensembles for various events such as Berkeley Ballet Theater Youth Company performances or benefits for organizations. Although I have many engagements already scheduled, I am available to play more concerts and for special occasions. Please ask me for details and check out my media and calendar pages.
